TEDxUNCAsheville: The Paralyzing Nature of Fear

Amryn Soldier (As a sophomore at UNC Asheville studying photography in the Arts program and playing on the Women's Tennis team) talks about how photography helped her overcome her fears and expand her personal horizons.

Self- Portraiture causes you to subject yourself to a great deal of vulnerability and put yourself in positions that make you uncomfortable either physically or mentally making it an art form that not many people are drawn to. The act of putting yourself in front of a camera to be documented invites criticism in an exceptionally personal form. You are the art that is on display, you are portraying the emotion, and you are executing the idea. You are also the victim of judgment. Fear is a completely natural response.
